About Tyler Yeung, L.E.A.D. Research Fellow
After recognizing gaps in sustainability education and community engagement, Tyler Yeung founded Global Changemakers to create opportunities for students to take initiative in addressing environmental and social challenges. Through this organization, he has led projects focused on revitalizing school garden spaces and delivering interactive sustainability workshops designed to make environmental concepts more accessible to younger students, while also securing AEF grant funding to support these initiatives.
Building on his interest in practical solutions, Tyler has developed hands-on sustainability projects that translate awareness into measurable impact. His rain barrel initiative has conserved 3,000+ gallons of water by capturing and reusing runoff, while his research into renewable energy explores how solar power can be implemented effectively in developing communities such as those in the Philippines. These experiences reflect his focus on applying data-driven thinking to real-world challenges.
Alongside his work in sustainability, Tyler has remained committed to education and mentorship. He has provided academic support through tutoring and is actively working to expand access to free learning resources for younger students. By connecting service, education, and environmental action, he continues to build initiatives that create both immediate and long-term value.
Through his leadership, Tyler focuses on identifying tangible community needs and developing practical, scalable solutions. His work is grounded in a hands-on approach and a commitment to creating lasting impact through service, innovation, and accessible opportunity.
About My Research:
Optimizing Solar Investment & Proving Higher Solar Returns through Load-Matching
Hypothesis
This project represents a crucial investment in proving a high-efficiency solar model that can fundamentally transform renewable energy deployment across tropical regions.
Our research focuses on quantifying why solar installations on educational infrastructure (schools) achieve a superior financial return compared to standard residential systems. This is achieved by leveraging the school’s natural daytime energy consumption, which aligns perfectly with peak solar generation. This alignment creates a “Virtual Battery,” allowing generated electricity to be consumed instantly, maximizing returns without requiring high-cost chemical storage.
Outcomes
Scalable Economic Blueprint: We are creating a robust, quantitative model to prove that institutional PV deployment is the most profitable and stable solar investment in emerging tropical markets. Once proven, this blueprint can be scaled by policymakers and investors globally, driving massive adoption.
Direct Community Impact: The study is built on a real-world system, immediately providing local students with clean, reliable electricity. This means fewer power interruptions, allowing fans and computers to run consistently, which directly supports enhanced education and a better classroom environment.
Sustainability without Waste: Your donation helps us demonstrate how to minimize low-value grid export, instead focusing on maximizing Avoided-Cost Savings by displacing expensive retail electricity, ensuring every solar watt is used for maximum benefit.
