L.E.A.D. Fellowship

Learn, Engage, and Do!

In rural Lubao, legacy infrastructure is the bottleneck to progress. L.E.A.D. Fellows are tackling the ‘mammoth’ task of regional development through four critical deployments:

Education:
Rehabilitating elementary campuses for over 500 students.
Public Services: Redesigning Santo Tomas Civic Center, serving 8329 residents
Healtchare: Research and fund frontline preventative health and mental health programs.
Economy: Launching seed-funding program for 11 business owners serving the community.

Taking the First Bite

In partnership with the city council of Sto. Tomas, ETE has pinpointed key areas in need of community development. We’ve teamed up with Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Environmental Design and renowned Landscape Architecture firm, Design Workshop, to lead the first design phase of Lubao’s infrastructure improvement.

Next Bite: Action on the Ground

Professor Ray Senes (Cal Poly Pomona), Robb Berg (CEO, Design Workshop), Kenneth Woodall (CEO, Eat The Elephant), Ryan Vatan (L.E.A.D. Program Coordinator), and Alison Marie (LMFT, UCLA) took 21 students from Cal Poly Pomona, Irvine, and Arcadia to to Lubao, Philippines. Their mission: conduct in-depth community research to produce conceptual design for infrastructure development.

The ultimate goal: redevelop two elementary school campuses and the Santo Tomas Civic Center Plaza, and build a new multi-acre public park that serves a 8,000 population Barangay (municipality).
